Shopify Attribution

Write first-touch and last-touch UTM values and click IDs to Shopify customer profiles from the Attribution page in the Vendo Shopify app.

Last reviewed September 15, 2026

Attribution is a Beta feature of the Vendo Shopify app. It writes first-touch and last-touch acquisition details to Shopify customer profiles as customer metafields.

How it works

  1. The Vendo web pixel keeps first-touch and last-touch evidence in the browser of the shopper.
  2. The pixel sends a snapshot to Vendo when the Shopify customer ID is known or a checkout completes.
  3. After Vendo imports Shopify orders and customers, it writes changed values from your field groups to the customer.

Vendo writes the values as customer metafields in the vendo namespace. Vendo skips values that did not change.

Captured values

For each touch, the snapshot can contain these values:

ValueKeys
UTM valuesutm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term, utm_id, utm_source_platform, utm_campaign_id, utm_creative_format, utm_marketing_tactic
Click IDsgclid, gbraid, wbraid, msclkid, fbclid, ttclid, twclid, sccid, dclid, ko_click_id, li_fat_id
ReferrerThe referring domain, or a direct-visit marker
Capture timeThe time that the pixel captured the touch

The snapshot also contains the Meta browser IDs fbc and fbp when they are available.

Field groups

Field groupWhat Vendo writes
First-touch UTMsOriginal source, medium, campaign, content, term, and extended UTM fields
Last-touch UTMsMost recent UTM values captured before conversion
First-touch click IDsGoogle, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, and other provider identifiers
Last-touch click IDsSeparate raw fbclid, formatted fbc, and fbp fields

Capture datesFirst-touch and last-touch evidence timestamps

Turn on Attribution

  1. In the Vendo app, click Attribution.
  2. Turn on Enable attribution.
  3. Turn on each field group that Vendo must write.
  4. Click Save.

When you turn on Attribution with no field group, Vendo selects First-touch UTMs and Last-touch UTMs. You must keep at least 1 field group to save.

After the save, the page shows this message: “Settings saved. Only changed customer profiles will be written.”

Send existing history

Use Sync now to process the attribution history that Vendo already imported. The backfill does not get older records from Shopify. It cannot recover tracking data that the pixel did not capture.

  1. If the page has unsaved changes, click Save.
  2. Click Sync now.
  3. In the Backfill attribution window, click Start backfill.

Latest runs

The Latest runs table shows the 10 most recent attribution updates. Each run has a status and a result, for example “12 updated · 40 unchanged”.

StatusMeaning
RunningThe run is in progress. Refresh the page to see its progress.
CompletedThe run finished.
PartialThe run finished, but some customers failed. The message shows how many customers you can retry.
FailedThe run failed. You can retry it.

Turn off Attribution

  1. Turn off Enable attribution.
  2. Click Save.

Vendo stops writing values to Shopify customers. Values that Vendo already wrote stay on the customer profiles.

Status on the Shopify status page

The Attribution row on the Shopify status page shows Enabled or Off. Click the actions menu, then Edit, to open the Attribution page.

If the page shows Paused by Vendo, Vendo paused Attribution for the store. You cannot change settings until Vendo resumes it.
