Budget Controls
Budget Controls extends the Optimization feature with direct campaign management — view your campaign hierarchy, adjust budgets and bids, and track every change with a full audit trail.
How It Works
Vendo imports your campaign hierarchy (campaigns, ad groups, ad sets, keywords) from each connected ad platform during data sync. This creates a unified view in the Controls tab where you can:
- Browse the full entity hierarchy across platforms
- See current budgets, bid strategies, and bid amounts at the correct level
- Request changes to budgets or bids (logged in the Change Log)
- Monitor performance against KPI targets
Entity Hierarchy
Each ad platform organizes campaigns differently. Vendo normalizes the hierarchy into a consistent tree:
| Platform | Hierarchy | Budget Level | Bidding Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Ads | Campaign → Ad Group → Keyword → Ad | Campaign | Campaign or Ad Group |
| Meta Ads | Campaign → Ad Set → Ad | Campaign (CBO) or Ad Set (ABO) | Ad Set |
| TikTok Ads | Campaign → Ad Group → Ad | Campaign or Ad Group | Ad Group |
| Snapchat | Campaign → Ad Squad → Ad | Campaign or Ad Squad | Ad Squad |
| Campaign Group → Campaign → Creative | Campaign Group or Campaign | Campaign | |
| Microsoft Ads | Campaign → Ad Group → Keyword → Ad | Campaign | Campaign or Keyword |
| Pinterest (beta) | Campaign → Ad Group → Ad | Campaign | Ad Group |
| X (Twitter) | Campaign → Line Item → Ad | Campaign | Line Item |
Budget and bidding controls appear at the correct hierarchy level for each platform. Pinterest Ads is in beta — request access to enable it. See Optimization for the full supported-platform list.
Permissions
Budget Controls requires the Make Campaign Changes permission on the app connection. This permission has three sub-permissions:
| Sub-Permission | What It Allows |
|---|---|
| Adjust Bids | Change bid strategies (Target ROAS, Target CPA, manual CPC) and bid amounts |
| Adjust Spend | Modify daily or lifetime budgets (decrease only by default for safety) |
| Turn On/Off | Pause or enable campaigns, ad sets, and ad groups |
These permissions are configured when connecting the ad platform and can be changed in the app settings. For OAuth platforms, Vendo requests only the OAuth scopes needed for the selected permissions.
Change Log
Every budget or bidding modification is logged with:
- Change type — Budget amount, bid strategy, bid amount, bid target, or status toggle
- Before / after values — The exact change made
- Trigger source — Who initiated the change:
- Manual — User-initiated through the UI
- Recommendation — Applied from an optimization recommendation
- Auto Rule — Triggered by an automated optimization rule
- Agent — Suggested by the Agent
- Execution status — Whether the change was applied, failed, or rolled back
- KPI context — The KPI value at the time of the change (for impact tracking)
Value-Based Bidding Integration
Budget Controls works alongside Value-Based Bidding (VBB) to optimize your ad spend:
- VBB tells ad platforms how much each conversion is worth (per-user conversion values based on ML prediction deciles)
- Budget Controls manages where and how much to spend (campaign budgets, bid strategies, pacing)
Together, they create a closed loop: VBB improves the conversion values sent to ad platforms, while Budget Controls reallocates budget toward campaigns that meet your target metrics.
Data Sync
Campaign entity data is imported automatically during each source sync as a “feature task” — it runs once at the end of the sync (not per date chunk), keeping your campaign hierarchy current without extra API calls.
The sync imports:
- Campaign/ad group/ad set names and IDs
- Current daily or lifetime budgets
- Bid strategy type and amounts
- Entity status (active, paused, removed)
For platforms that use OAuth (Google, Meta, Microsoft, LinkedIn), budget and bidding fields come from the same API calls used for metadata enrichment — no additional authentication is needed.
